How often do we hear the word "democracy" from the lips of the first persons of the states? How often do we meet him in various kinds of media? Right. Everyday. But what is democracy, and is there a place for it in our modern world? Many experts and analysts have been trying to find answers to these questions over the years.

Politicians say that they are doing everything to ensure citizens their rights and freedoms and strengthen their freedom of speech and choice. But what do we really see? Every day we are more and more oppressed in our rights, making us slaves to the system. Therefore, the question of what democracy is - something really existing or a bare term, is very difficult to answer, if at all possible.

Nevertheless, The Economist Intelligence Unit research agency compiled an annual rating of the most democratic countries in the world.

As we can see, Russia occupies only 134th position in this rating. Unfortunately, this is well deserved and explainable. We will not go into the analytics of the Russian political system. It is enough to pay attention to how, for example, the opposition is “strangled” in our country or how elections are held. This is quite enough to understand how far Russia is from democratic ideals. Well, there is much to strive for. But is there any point?
